From 22 to 24 June, spectators were treated to an incredible weekend of favourable winter weather with clear blue skies and world-class equestrian action at the third annual Land Rover Durban High Goal Polocrosse Tournament.
The event took place at the premier province’s venue, Shongweni Polocrosse Club – with eight teams consisting of some of the world’s best players and approximately 100 horses participating in the three-day event.|
The Rockwil men’s team broke team Land Rover’s two-year winning streak, when they conquered team Kego 32-24 in an intense finale. 2nd place went to team TWK Agri with team Kego in 3rd and Land Rover taking 4th place.
James Hackland of team Rockwil received the the Most Valuable Men’s Player Award. South African team captain Jannie Steenkamp won the best No.1 Men’s player with John Rae (SA) receiving best No.2 Men’s Player and Travis Timm (SA) as best No.3. Additionally, the Golden Pony Award in the men’s category went to Miss Disco, ridden by James Hackland.
In the final ladies’ game for the day, team Roski lost by one point to Land Rover Evoque with a final score of 23-22. Furthermore, in the overall standings following three days of play, team Roski won 1st place ahead of team Evoque, with team Meru Moru in 3rd and team Equest in 4th place.
Australian player, Lucy Grills with took Best No.1 Ladies Player with Karen Cocker (SA) as best No.2, and Sandy Weston as Best No.3. Caley Higgs won the Most Valuable Ladies Player Award with Natalie MacLarty taking the Golden Pony Award in the women’s category.
